This ground-up vacation home on the southernmost tip of Stone Harbor NJ highlights the property’s spectacular views of both the ocean and the bay. To best appreciate the panorama, this house utilizes “upside down” living, with the first floor containing the 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a family room, while the upper floor features an open kitchen/dining/living space and the master suite.

The design goal of this house was to meld a traditional look on the street side, with a more contemporary style on the private side overlooking the marshlands. The owner wanted a gambrel roofline, which allowed the design team to maximize the interior volume of the main living space.

A soaring 18’ vaulted ceiling created by the intersecting gambrel roofs created a dramatic wall of windows in the space containing the open kitchen, living room and dining room. Other special touches include a 3 stop elevator, an outdoor shower + dog bath, a pool and cabana, and indoor and outdoor fireplaces.

A screened in porch with retractable screens allows for the enjoyment of any sort of weather. Various sustainability initiatives were utilized in this house, with solar panels taking advantage of the unobstructed southern exposure.
The construction on this house took one year.
