Cambridge Modern Townhouse

Gut renovation of a 1970's modern townhouse featuring a new floating steel and glass stairway, gorgeous walnut floors, a compact open floor plan, and a 5-panel folding glass door.

The green cabinetry at the bar blends into a feature wall in the living room. Walnut flooring ties the open plan together.

The new floating stair is visible behind the feature wall. The wall contains maple shelving (left) and a coat closet (right, not seen). The drape to the right conceals a 5-panel folding door and retractable screen.

When the door is folded away the ipe deck feels like an extension of the living room. The end wall screen was added to allow more light onto the deck while retaining privacy.

The townhouse is the end unit of 4 houses built in the same style in the 1970's. The green panels were restored to match the original design where each unit had a different feature color.

A new cedar fence encloses the urban yard. Reclaimed granite blocks make a sitting area near the street while bluestone pavers lead to the yard.

The master suite has a top floor balcony where we added a green glass guardrail to match the green panels on the facade.

The compact back yard is wrapped in a warm red cedar fence with natural oil finish. The original stair down from the kitchen was restored and extended to a new bluestone patio.
