This professional couple’s kids are fleeing the nest so now is the perfect time to make their space their own again without worrying about wear and tear from teenagers. A return to domestic calm started with the kitchen that formerly had the clutter typical of a busy family with backpacks, paper piles and sports gear. Enter now and you will be instantly wow-ed by the bright and cheery bold blue palette that immediately invites you in.
Sleek white lacquer cupboards with plenty of storage are topped by a white stone benchtops. Brass accents bring a touch of panache and compliment the gun metal fixtures and rich black appliances with stainless steel trim. The blue subway tiles with white grout add a pop of colour and the floating aluminum blue shelf ties in beautifully and is the perfect spot for cookbooks and a bit of greenery. The gorgeous pendulum light is a genuine French boulevard light sourced from an upcycle shop in New Plymouth. Rich blue oak accents were added to the island to tie in the tile for a cohesive look and feel. White and silver barstools provide a spot to chat or eat on the fly.
A reconfiguration of the overall space allowed for a newly designated laundry room. The same acrylic drawers in the kitchen were built along with the duplicate stone benchtop. A really clever wooden drying rack was attached to the ceiling for convenience. Vinyl wallpaper added the blue hue of the kitchen while being durable enough for the utilitarian purpose of the room.
A lovely little powder room has triangular tiles in navy and white for an eye-catching backsplash.The base of the sink with its sleeks lines ties to the island in the kitchen for consistency in the overall design. The gold fixtures were selected to provide some polish and the backlit mirror creates some mood lighting to give the illusion of a larger, brighter, space.
An existing window seat was upholstered and textured pink throw pillows added, per the client’s request, for a dash of femininity in an otherwise formal space. The rich royal fabric allows the antique window to shine and has become the perfect spot for the family dog to sun himself. A linen sofa, rug and decor are the owner’s own.
